Welded Plate Heat Exchangers

Sol-Tech srl Solution Technology can provide a number of different models of welded plate heat exchangers, and design customized versions adapted to your specific requirements, in order to ensure the highest level of efficiency these exchangers can offer.

We provide a list below of the welded plate heat exchanger modes we supply.

PLATE & SHELL WELDED PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS

This type of exchanger, which we can supply even in the Openable version (that is to say inspectionable with the possibility of cleaning the shell and the plate), have die cast plates which are then coupled by means of a microplasma resistant welding, with burst test results that are even better than that of the raw metal used.

The plate couples are assembled and welded together along the perimeter, creating an accordion shaped plate package which guarantees a high resistance and tolerance to thermal dilatation and mechanical stress.

The plate package is then placed within the cylindrical mantle; package and mantle are then fastened with special spacers which allow the correct circulation of the fluids within the exchanger.

The final plates, the nozzles and the containment headers are welded to the mantle in order to form a compact pressurised piece of equipment.

On the heat exchanger mantle one can also install connections with larger diameters.

Materials

Materials used in the Plate & Shell plate heat exchangers can include:

  • TITANIUM
  • TITANIUM/PALLADIUM
  • AVESTA 254 SMO
  • HASTELLOY C 276
  • and other alloys

The containment mantle can built out of:

  • Carbon steels
  • AISI 304
  • AISI 316
  • AISI 316L
  • TITANIUM
  • and other alloys

The units can be built out of different materials when just one fluid can turn out to be corrosive, while on the other hand the production standard is Plate in AISI 316L and Shell in Carbon Steel

BLOCK-TYPE WELDED PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS

The core of these welded plate exchangers are the plates, available with three different profiles, welded together to form a flat cubic package. The frame is comprised of four columns and two side plates on which the welded plate package is mounted.

The doors are screwed onto the four sides of the unit. The alternative plate profiles offer the ideal solution in terms of thermal efficiency and maintenance options, in that they are inspectionable from all sides.

The three plate profiles of the block-type welded plate heat exchangers are:

Profile 1 – STHXC

This profile is best suited for 2 clean fluids and is the best solution for petrochemical, chemical, pharmaceutical and coke applications.
Here are the plate’s main characteristics:

  • The type of undulations used on the plate guarantee a high level of efficiency
  • The surface area ranges between 2 m² and 280 m²
  • Profile adjustment: minimum space of 5 mm between plates
  • Pressure up to 36 bar
  • Temperature: 350 ° C
  • Material: stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium, tantalum
  • High efficiency, compactness, competitive solution.

Furthermore this kind of profile is also available in the new STHXC Free-flow solution, particularly suited for processes with 1 dirty fluid and 1 clean fluid Here are the main characteristics of this innovative solution:

  • 25 mm free flow channel between the plates
  • Special plate design creates turbulence
  • High thermal exchange coefficient

Profile 2 – STHXE

This profile is best suited for 1 dirty fluid and is the best solution for cellulose and paper, sugar, coke and pharmaceutical applications. Here are the main characteristics of this profile:

  • Surface area range of between 1 m² and 625 m²
  • Free gap of up to 40 mm for a single channel
  • Pressure up to 32 bar
  • Studded plates
  • Plate package can be independent of the frame
  • Temperature: 350 ° C
  • Materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, nickel alloys, titanium
  • FREE-GAP
  • The plates can be repaired and replaced

Profile 3 – STHXS

The STHXS profile is suitable for 2 dirty liquids and is the best solution for sludge/waste water sludge, for processing plants, sugar factories, PVC stripping and process applications. Here are its main characteristics:

  • Surface area range of between 1 m² and 300 m²
  • Pressure up to 25 bar
  • Temperature: 250 ° C
  • Studded plates
  • Material: stainless steel, nickel alloys
  • Free gap of up to 25 mm on both sides
  • The easiest solution to clean
  • Easy access on both sides
  • No stress levels on the plates
  • Less corrosion compared to other profiles

GRAPHITE BLOCK-TYPE WELDED PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS

It is also possible to produce graphite block exchangers

These exchangers are very compact and have the following characteristics:

  • Drilled holes or double slots on the process side, doubling the lateral surface process and making the unit ideal for use as a condenser.
  • Special GMP design features
  • Completely draining and absence of servicing processes with gaskets
  • No hidden gaskets
  • Large size and modular design options
  • Size of the individual blocks of the piece’s core: 250mm², 400mm², 500mm² and 600 mm² and up to 1600mm in length
  • Area of thermal exchange between 1m² and 100m²
  • Drilled holes adapted to process requirements (6.5 mm, holes of 10 mm and 16 mm, single or double hole patterns)
  • Project pressure: up to 10 bar.G on the process and on the service side
  • PTFE bellows mounted on graphite nozzles to remove tubing stress
  • Interchanger, an ideal solution for corrosive fluids on both the process and service side
  • Multi pass disposition on both the process and service side, which enables a more efficient thermal design using a real countercurrent flow.
  • Ease of maintenance, seeing as they are easily dismantled for review and cleaning

These exchangers are available on request for the main markets such as fine chemical production and pharmaceuticals, H2SO4 dilution, or exchange device for 2 corrosive fluids.

ADVANTAGES OF SOL-TECH SRL SOLUTION TECHNOLOGY

Turning to us for your choice of welded plate heat exchangers, whether circular or block-type, means being able to rely on:

  • The possibility of creating made to measure welded plate heat exchangers, thanks to a very in depth assessment of the characteristics of the applications they are meant to serve.
  • Maximum optimization of the sizing and accurate performance calculations for the chosen heat exchangers.
  • Quality advice on the choice and design of one’s exchangers.
  • Maintenance service

ADVANTAGES OF WELDED PLATE HEAT EXCHANGERS

The welded plate heat exchangers compared to other types of plate heat exchangers have a number of advantages:

  • High performance levels
  • Reduced bulk
  • Minimal amount of maintenance required

These kinds of plate exchangers are particularly suited for extreme conditions, very high temperatures and high pressures.

Furthermore, like the other types of plate exchangers the welded plate exchangers can provide:

  • An effective heat transfer
  • As they are countercurrent flow heat exchangers they have much higher heat exchange coefficients compared to concurrent exchangers
  • High turbulence which reduced the soiling effect and improves thermal efficiency
  • Ease of transportation and installation

Fluids

The plate heat exchangers can perform their task as exchangers between fluids and fluids/gases, condensers and evaporators with different fluid and fluid/gas combinations: water-water, water-air, water-vapour, air-air, water-oil and all the fluids and gases used in industrial processes.
